7th World Conference aftermath

A new Born Confederation for the Higher Education Associations relating to agricultural and life sciences

The 7th Conference that was held in Beauvais in June 2011 gave the opportunity to the Representatives of the Global Regional University Associations and the GCHERA Executive Committee members to establish a new  confederation during a Founding General Assembly, with direct membership of the Associations instead of the universities alone.

GCHERA will stand with its former acronym but is now called: Global Confederation of Higher Education Associations for the Agricultural and Life Sciences.

Reshaping GCHERA

The Association is now a not for profit organisation with the mission to encourage mutual understanding and global co-operation of the higher educational associations and their institutions in supporting innovation and providing leadership in education, research and outreach in agricultural and life sciences.

Through capacity development the Association will achieve this mission by supporting member higher education associations and their membership in contributing to improving:

                                                      sustainable agricultural and rural development,

food security
the quality of life,
health and nutrition,
development of bio renewable resources, and
reducing poverty”

Bridging the gap between Associations of Higher Education Institution for the agricultural and the Life Sciences

During the 2009 and 2010 Executive Committee meetings of GCHERA, it was agreed that the  former organization of GCHERA should evolve towards a Confederation of Regional University Associations, with the aim to go beyond the current activity of a biannual conference and to develop as a partner to other international organizations, such as FAO, in the development of sustainable rural economies worldwide.
