The Second Global Conference on Agricultural Research for Development 2012 will take place from 29 October to 1 November 2012 in Punta del Este, Uruguay

Theme of the Conference: Foresight and partnership for innovation and impact on small-holder livelihoods

GCARD 2012 provides opportunity for all sectors and regions to report their activities since 2010 and to agree collective
actions and next steps in implementation of the GCARD Roadmap and the CGIAR Strategy & Results Framework.

Louis Malassis International Scientific Prize 2012

The Louis Malassis International Scientific Prize for Agriculture and Food aims to recognize individuals, or a group of individuals, for their exemplary and promising contribution in promoting innovation through research, development and capacity building in the North, South or in the Mediterranean, in order to improve food and agricultural systems sustainability as well as contribute to addressing food security and poverty reduction.

The Award Ceremony will be held during the 2nd Global Conference on Agricultural Research for Development (GCARD) on 29 October – 01 November 2012 in Punta del Este, Uruguay.

A major breakthrough was made by the scientists of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi, India by producing World’s first cloned buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) calf through the Hand-guided cloning technique in February 2009.
With this advancement, India has entered an era of cloning buffalo, an important dairy and meat animal, through a simplified technique.
