GCHERA World Agriculture Prize – to award excellence in academic leadership in agricultural universities

In October 2012, Nanjing Agricultural University proposed to hold a GCHERA World Agriculture Prize to reward excellence in academic leadership in Agriculture universities worldwide.

This 50K USD prize will be awarded in Nanjing Agricultural University in China on 20 October 2013. The process for nominations for this prize will be announced shortly.

GCHERA planned Moscow Conference in June 2013 – Cancelled

On 4 April, there was an extraordinary meeting of the GCHERA Steering committee in order to make a final decision about Moscow events. This meeting was preceded by two visits to Moscow to assess the advancement of planning of the GCHERA CIS regional Conference to be held at the Russian State Agrarian University - Moscow Timiryazev Agricultural Academy on 28 and 29 June 2013.

In view of the lack of funding from the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, the Committee endorsed the suggestion of Rector Bautin to merge the GCHERA Regional CIS Conference with the 115^th Anniversary Conference and 15^th anniversary of GCHERA in Kyiv, Ukraine, from 4 to 8 November 2013. This conference will be held under the auspices of GCHERA.

GCHERA Board and General Assembly in Nanjing, China to elect the next Chair

The GCHERA Steering Committee decided, in view of the timeframe for obtaining visas and flights, it was not feasible to hold a GCHERA Board meeting in Moscow on 26 and 27 June.

The GCHERA Board meeting and General Assembly will be held on 21 & 22 October 2013 on the occasion of the ceremony to award the GCHERA World Agriculture Prize. Please put the dates in your diary NOW!

The GCHERA Steering Committee will meet in June to prepare for the Board meeting which will focus on enhancing capacity building in higher agricultural and life science education worldwide. Each Higher Education Association representative is invited to attend with his/her alternate.

A call for nominations for next Chair of GCHERA to be elected at the GCHERA General Assembly in Nanjing will follow shortly. Nominees will be invited to attend the June Steering committee meeting to be held in Paris from 26 to 28 June 2013.

AMEAS & APLU-CFAVM-ICA Conference Mexico 2014, under the auspices of GCHERA

In order to foster the construction of the network in the Americas, GCHERA endorses the proposed conference to be held in Mexico in the Spring of 2014 which will be organised by AMEAS (Mexico) and APLU (USA)–CFAVM (Canada)-ICA (Europe).

From being a food-deficit country with recurring famines, India has not only become food self-sufficient, but is now a significant grain exporter.
